Our name, Afrokhambart, proudly reflects our African roots and commitment to fostering cultural exchange, understanding, and innovation.

Afrokhambart, a 28-member ensemble of visionary artists from Amandawe Mission, Scottburgh, is redefining the performing arts landscape. Under the inspired leadership of two trailblazing directors - David Mbongeni Sabela, whose majestic presence electrifies the stages of Disney's Lion King in Germany, and Simphiwe Sanele Sikhakhane, a multi-talented artist known for his work as a songwriter, musical director, singer, actor, and dancer - Afrokhambart fuses the essence of traditional Zulu arts with modern innovation, crafting an immersive experience that will leave you spellbound and inspired.
Inspiration and Motivation
Our team is inspired by the achievements of our leaders, David Mbongeni Sabela, who has mesmerized audiences with his iconic portrayal of Simba in Disney's The Lion King, and Simphiwe Sanele Sikhakhane, a multi-talented artist with over 20 years of experience in the performing arts industry. Their dedication, passion, and success motivate us to pursue our goals with excellence. We are also proud to have partnered with UShaka Marine World, signing a year long contract to showcase traditional Zulu dance performances, further solidifying our commitment to promoting South African culture and arts. Distinguished Achievements* Afrokhambart's remarkable journey is marked by numerous accolades and distinctions, solidifying our position as a leading performing arts ensemble in KwaZulu-Natal. Our achievements include: 1. Triumphant Victory: We claimed the top trophy for Best Zulu Dancers at the prestigious Arts and Culture Zulu Dance Competition (Umdoni) in 2023. 2. Prestigious Partnership: We secured exclusive one-year contracts with the renowned UShaka Marine World for traditional Zulu dance performances in 2022 and 2024. 3. Community Impact: We collaborated with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Community Policing Forum (CPF) on a talent showcase and awareness event addressing pressing social issues. 4. Media Recognition: We've been featured in the esteemed Rising Sun newspaper for our efforts to uplift local artists and impact youth. We've also graced the front page of the illustrious Ilanga newspaper, showcasing our growing reputation. 5. Performance Excellence: We won a coveted 45-minute performance slot at the Play House's 2023 Test Drive Competition, showcasing our artistic prowess on the Africa Day celebration stage.

Meet Our Directors
David Mbongeni Sabela
David Mbongeni Sabela is a seasoned performer and creative leader from South Africa, known for his iconic portrayal of Simba in Disney's The Lion King. With over 15 years of experience abroad, he has excelled in various international productions. Some notable credits include: • Stage productions: The Lion King (Simba) in Hong Kong and Germany • Extensive experience in musical theatre, dance, and acting • Collaborations with renowned theatre companies and directors • Leadership roles in various productions, showcasing his versatility and range David's experience in international productions has equipped him with a unique perspective, which he now brings to Afrokhambart as Co-Director. His passion for storytelling and dedication to his craft inspire a new generation of artists.
Sphamandla Hlongwa
Sphamandla Hlongwa is a young and talented Director and Choreographer at Afrokhambart. With a passion for the performing arts, he has quickly become an integral part of our team. Musa Mkhino Mbhele
